First Timer’s Guide

Step 1: choosing your first session

There are a number of appointments or classes you can choose to do as your first class with us at Flow Pilates and Fitness. We highly recommend that you make a start with our Start up Pack of three x 1 hr privates. These can be taken over three weeks or in a week, depending on ours and your schedule. In these sessions you will acquire some basic skills to cover breathing and alignment, and then we will get you moving in a slow and mindful manner utilising your new skills. Additionally, if you are concerned about injury, or would like a more tailored experience, then this is where you need to start. These appointments give us the chance to get to know you and your body, but also for you to get to know us. Email studio@flowpilates.net.au to arrange this.

If you have had prior experience with Pilates (ie. regularly attended mat/reformer or studio classes), we welcome you to book into our Flow Trial, which gives you three classes to try out over 14 days. As we are not like all other studios in the area, we recommend you book into Reformer CONTROL, MIXED LEVEL, STRONG BONES (MAT OR REFORMER) OR MAT FLOW class where possible to familiarise yourself with our studio procedures and teaching methodology. It is our intention that you have a good experience, therefore please note that we will screen you prior to the start of your first class to ensure your level of ability. If the teacher is not satisfied that you are up to the level of the class, there’s a possibility that you will be asked to attend a private session or a different group class.

Control classes are great introduction class that run at a slower pace than our flagship ‘FLOW’ & Mixed Level classes. Joining Control classes for your first 10-30 classes will help you build your confidence and help you gather greater understanding of the Pilates method. It is also for those that are returning to Pilates that want to refine and go deeper into their practise.

Mat classes are also starting to appear on the schedule as a wonderful addition to your reformer classes. We make the mat classes suitable for most levels and you definitely won’t feel like one of the crowd in our small, personalised six person class. We know your name and will use it throughout the class.

*Please ensure that you can get down to the floor and back up again prior to attending a mat class.

Step 2: Booking into your session

There are two really simple ways you can book into your session.

Option 1 - Book through our website - Just head over to our book now page, from here you'll be able to see all of our classes on the schedule and reserve your place. You’ll be able purchase your Flow Trial or Causal Pass after you click book.

Option 2 - Book through the Mindbody Online mobile application, where you can book, purchase your passes, and see your own schedule all in the one place. Head to our Faqs & Policies page to learn how to download.

Pro tip - Don’t click refresh or hit the back button after you purchase your pass. it might double up the payment.

Step 3: Prepare for your session

Your session is today, what do you do?

Complete the Medical Form and Disclaimer - If you haven't done so already, you will need to download and complete the form. Its the easiest way for you to let us know about any previous injuries, or anything you else you'd like us to know about you. We will also discuss the goals you want to achieve during your classes to help you on your way.

Arrive at least 10 minutes early - This will give you a chance to get familiar with our studio and our bulk foods store, Naturally Hooked. Delicious smoothies and coffee are available all day.

Wear something comfortable - Please wear comfortable active wear clothing that allows for movement without restriction. Pilates is done barefoot, although we ask that you wear grip socks for hygiene purposes and safety. Grip socks are available for purchase in the studio.

Make sure you have water - Don’t forget to bring a water bottle, socks and a small hand towel. For your convenience, filtered and bottled water is available for sale in the studio.

Come ready to move - Please arrive ready and in your workout clothing as we don’t have shower or bathroom facilities on site. There is a bathroom located just down the hall on Level 1. Please ask us for the key.

Please turn off your Mobile Phone - Please consider the needs of the other clients in the class and turn your phone to silent and switch off the vibration.

If you are unsure of anything - Check out our FAQ's page, otherwise do not hesitate to reach out to us.
